The Cowrie shell called “leho” is an octopuses called he'e, favorite snack and in the early 1900's Hawaiians used the cowrie since it is irresistible to octopuses, as a lure to capture the octopus. One of the only sea creatures that can eat a cowry shell is the octopus that uses its hard beak to drill a hole in the top of the cowry shell and eat the soft snail inside.
